Come out to the metaverse, we’ll get together, have a few laughs…

Experience the world of entertainment like never before in the metaverse for film, music, art & fashion.  Mogieland is a homage to Hollywood and is inspired by the traditional landmarks of Hollywood, such as Hollywood Boulevard, Studio City, and more.

Mogies in Mogieland - Mogie #461 - John Mclane

“Welcome to the party, pals!”

From the animators that brought The Simpsons series, The Simpsons Movie and VR attractions at Universal Studios Japan comes the first ever NFT animated series.

The collection of 1,923 handcrafted CGI NFTs is inspired by the last 100 years of Hollywood characters and personalities in celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Hollywood sign.   All of which leads into the upcoming animated series, and new Mogieland metaverse.

Mogies in Mogieland - Mogies #1624 - Neo - Matrix

Mogies are aliens that feed on entertainment.  They look and act like all our favorite characters and Hollywood icons from the past 100 years, even ones that know kung-fu. Mogies are citizens of Mogieland and interact inside the metaverse through different adventures.

Ultimately, Mogies are passionate cosplayers and the biggest fans in the galaxy.  Mogieland is their Comic-Con and they have every intention to ensure it lasts forever.

Mogies in Mogieland - Mogies #577 - Forrest Gump

“Mogies episodes are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

In animated series, action heroes, heart throbs, gladiators, talk show hosts, villains, aliens, princesses, children’s characters, and various other Hollywood-inspired characters are engaged in epic adventures.

With the launch of the coming series, the owners of these Hollywood-inspired NFT characters will have the IP rights to their characters forever.  All of which come with valuable benefits.

Mogies in Mogieland - Mogies #749 - Indiana Jones

“It’s not the years. It’s the mileage.”

The Mogies collection of NFTs support the creation of the new animated series. To ensure that the Mogieland and Mogies ecosystem is healthy and continually adding more utility, 50% of all 7.5% secondary market royalties will go directly towards growing the project.   Also 10% of all future rewards from the Mogies animated series, wearables, collectibles, or line of figurines will be distributed to Mogie NFT holders as rewards quarterly.

Mogie NFT owners will get the ability to participate in the animation series development. In the private Discord channel, Mogie owners can be part of the animated filmmaking process in partnership with the animators of the Simpsons. They can make suggestions about the series and have direct input to the creators.

Selected characters from amongst the NFT collection have already been chosen as characters for the Mogies Animated series. As more scripts are written, characters are animated, and episodes produced, certain Mogies will be joining the cast. Which ones are already stars, that we can’t tell you. You’re gonna need to watch to find out.

Once the Mogies animated series airs, the studio version of the Pilot will be transformed into an exclusive NFT and be sent out to all Mogie holders. As part of the Mogies derivative collection, users will own a piece of a TV series. In addition a special thank you will be shown in the credits at the end of episodes to select holders.

“Mogie Who Catch STARS With Chopsticks, Accomplish Anything.”

We’re not saying you can catch STARS tokens, or movie stars, with special chopsticks in Mogieland.  But we are not saying that you can’t catch them with chopsticks either. All sorts of surprises are being developed behind the scenes.

“Go on and make your jokes Mr Mogie…Joke-maker! How will the Mogies NFT sale work?”

Mogies will be sold in a Dutch Auction process, which means that Mogies will start at 1 ETH and the price will slowly decrease at a rate of 0.2 ETH every 24 hours

Phase 2: Whitelist Sale for Access Pass holders (NFTs reserved for them)

The 1,073 Mogies will be available to those on the whitelist and will be sold at the last price of the Dutch Auction.

Phase 3: Public Sale

Any remaining Mogies will be available for 72 hours  and will be sold at the last price of the Dutch Auction.

Phase 3.5: Bonus Mint

Any unsold NFTs will be allocated to the first purchasers from the dutch auction. This phase will only occur in the unlikely event that the Mogies allocated for public sale do not sell out within a 72 hour period.

Phase 4: Reveal

Once all the Mogies have been distributed, we will commence with the reveal, and everyone will be able to see which of their Mogies they received.

What is Film3?

Getting to Web 3

Web1 is an era of the internet where people could post content and it could be consumed by others.  Web 2.0 is the era of the social internet or the web as a platform, but where large companies owned all of the data being posted on them, combining mobile, social and cloud computing.

Web3 is the ownership and collaboration economy.  Web 3.0 are virtual business models, or places parallel to our physical world, built upon the core concepts of decentralization, openness, trustless networks, powered by encrypted, accountable distributed ledgers, where you can own and monetize your own content directly with a community or network.  It combines various tech like AR and VR to create centralized virtual spaces where people can meet, work and play.

Film3 is the filmmaking version of Web 3.0.

If Film 1.0 represented the era of making more movies and hoping they get consumed, and Film 2.0 represents the consolidation of the studios and everyone generally having to go through them and their distribution channels to get a movie project greenlighted, then Film3 is where the economy of Web 3.0 melds with filmmaking. It represents ownership and monetization of your own content without needing big studios to get a film produced and distributed through Decentralized Film Financing (DeFiFi) which also includes NFTs.

Film3 infrastructure is taking place online.  It is the immersive experience of filmmaking in blockchain and metaverse spaces.  The newest layers of the entertainment industry are being built online.  Production companies, film companies, streaming platforms, financing, advertising and more aspects of the filmmaking process are on the internet in a more transparent way.

Filmmaking has become very Hollywood-centric and cliquey.   Only a few key decision makers act as gatekeepers for content. Studios run the show in terms of determining what content goes out because they’ve  become more vertically integrated and have lots of cash.

Film financing structures are expensive, inefficient and restrictive.  It enhances the power imbalance between distributors and indie films.

There’s a lack of funding access for indie films. Budget standards exist in silos. There is poor market data for international sales.  Even for key decision makers,  there is a lack of information regarding support for what types of film the fans actually wish to watch and engage with?   Post production is a lengthy process, often occurring without fan participation or even fan awareness.

Film3 solves the power imbalance.

Bottom-up design

Film3 is being developed in full view of everyone, encouraging maximum participation and experimentation.

New ways of financing are igniting new trends for indie filmmaking.   Too many great potential films don’t get made, due to the studios powers making it difficult for the little guys, including indie filmmakers and movie fans, to have their voices heard.

That all changes with Film3.

With Film3, movies are made with the fans.

For filmmakers that were struggling to get financing or to launch their story into the market, Film3 fills a gap.

The whole premise of Film3 is to enable filmmakers to get their stories turned into cinematic releases.  Film3 pioneers offer movie fans a piece of the action on movies they want to support. Through Film3, the fanbase is part of the film production.  They become a force in the decision making process.

A film’s net proceeds can be distributed back to the fanbase community, via a blockchain smart contract.   The modern movie fan is part of a collective that lets their voice be heard, both online and off. They mobilize and fight for what they are passionate about, to the point that real changes get made to Hollywood projects.

Film3 is built by innovative groups and partners upon the notion of decentralization, transparency, and greater user utility for fans, collectors and filmmakers.

Arabian Camels is the first NFT community to create a $50M DeFi Hollywood movie which is owned together with everyone via NFTs.

First dropped in 2021, the Arabian Camels collection helped lay the foundation for IP from the upcoming feature film Antara.   NFT holders can get acting parts in the film, access to the film’s premiere, and part-ownership of the movie, enabling them to partake in box office and streaming revenues. The community is also eligible to earn a yield on their NFTs during production.

The vision behind Arabian Camels is to create a whole new platform and ecosystem where creators, producers, digital artists, and communities can collaborate to create something special for movie lovers.

The Film3 landscape currently consists of subcategories

Decentralized Production Companies

Crowdfunding

Virtual Cinemas

Film/Series using NFTs

Film related platforms

Film related DAOs

NEARVERSE fits in the Virtual Cinemas subcategory.  They partner with Film3 communities to scale metaverse development in virtual cinemas and user engagement. NEARVERSE  is a metaverse focused on empowering artists, and provides the ability for every player to earn through exploration, by giving options to create epic lands and interactions thus enabling users to embark on a new journey within a thriving metacommunity.

Mogul Productions is a leader in all Film3 subcategories.

Filmmakers use Mogul as a platform to launch their movie campaigns.  Mogul and its partners establish product lines to connect movie-makers with fans to decentralize the filmmaking process and provide better fan engagement opportunities.

Mogul partners with artists, filmmakers, actors, and other entertainers to provide an end-to-end solution for minting and launching their own NFT collections through their marketplace. They are an immersive and inclusive platform transforming how movies and other forms of art and entertainment get funded by allowing members of its expansive community to participate in the production process like never before.

Projects are greenlit through a combination of voter staking, NFT film memorabilia sales, private funding, and film funds.

From script to screen, Film3 has 3 pillars.

  1. Decentralized Film Financing platform (DeFiFi)
  2. NFT marketplace
  3. Metaverse

DeFiFi Platform

Indie filmmakers are able to get their movies financed by incentivizing from their fans.   Crypto-based decentralized platforms allow fans to participate in the box office revenues, conduct voting and governance on key film decision aspects, plus reward users through voter staking and other incentives.  It brings a whole new level of movie promotions along with the financing.

NFT Marketplace

Utility based NFTs are designed to create incentive structures by bringing fans closer to the action via different forms of experiential utility and behind-the-scenes access. Independent filmmakers can  monetize NFTs during the pre-production and production phases of filmmaking as a means of funding their work.

A few examples of utility-based NFTs could be getting producer credits on a film or getting access to behind-the-scenes content. It could be meeting a lead actor for facetime, or one-of-a-kind film memorabilia or invitations to exclusive events like red carpet premieres.

Experience Hollywood in the Metaverse

Social trends are changing.  During the Film 2.0 era,  going out to the movies was a large social pastime.  It still is.  Yet, with streaming services and now home movie watching, the pastime  has lost a lot of what it once had.  The Metaverse has the ability to bring that back

Mogieland is Hollywood in the metaverse.  It is a Film3 digital reality that combines aspects of social media, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and cryptocurrencies to allow fans and other users to interact virtually.  Visual elements are overlaid with sounds, CG, and other inputs to enhance the user experience and enhance fictional realities.

Users from around the world can host and attend digital movie premieres.

They can…

  • Go to movie premieres and red carpet events
  • Mingle with film and entertainment creators plus get behind-the-scenes looks
  • Attend meet and greets with the stars
  • Attend first screening viewings of films
  • Watch movies with tickets paid for in tokens
  • Enjoy hangout areas with other cinema lovers in VR environments to discuss all things entertainment
  • Attend concerts
  • Attend fashion shows
  • Buy NFT’s from virtual stores
  • Own, build, rent and use land for Film3 commerce.
  • Own iconic pieces of Hollywood transformed in Mogieland
  • Show off your virtual style by wearing your own NFT fashions
  • Play to earn in Studio City

Introducing the Film3 lifecycle.

Through decentralized applications

  • Filmmakers can launch their Intellectual Property (IP) to a dedicated audience via DeFi and NFTs.
  • Financing and payment distribution is handled through smart contracts, providing access to global non-dilutive capital.
  • Incentivized engagement is used to build a fanbase, and de-risk distribution. Exclusive film content is issued to fans through NFT smart contracts.
  • Smarter data using built-in fanbases drive decisions across entire slates.

To summarize, Film3 is the next generation of media, disrupting legacy models by utilizing blockchain technology and the power of digital communities. By eliminating the many layers of middlemen between artist and audience, revenue can be distributed across a flat organizational structure.

Film3 gives independent filmmakers unprecedented access to financing; offers them greater creative control over their projects; allows them to leverage their audience and industry connections in new, revolutionary ways; and creates a more equitable financial model that benefits creators before creditors.

The Mogul Impact From Script to Screen

Welcome to the future of filmmaking.

With a series of major announcements soon to be revealed, the road to blockchain driven filmmaking in combination with fanbase participation will go through Mogul Productions, and its upcoming metaverse Mogieland.  From script to screen, Mogul is thrilled to be a leader in the film and entertainment industry within Film3, the Hollywood version of Web3.

Rapid development of the Mogul NFT and DeFi platform in just one year has put our seal on the new direction of film and entertainment creation.  So far, there is no blockchain platform or project on the planet that is addressing the movie industry the way Mogul is.

A gigantic amount of planning and functionality was required to build a crypto platform of this size from the groun d up.  This includes coding, development features for users, STARS token development, onboarding, writing and graphics, security development, payment features, metaverse features and successful DeFi movie production and NFT campaigns.  On top of all of this is all our technology partnerships with the best resources in the world as seen on Nasdaq, Forbes, and Cointelegraph.

Several Mogul partnered films have already gone through the production process.  They are hitting the big screen and international film festivals.  New films are being onboarded.  By the same time next year, the library of films and entertainment products from script to screen will showcase the rapid changes taking place in the industry and Mogul Production’s leadership in this transition.

Experience the Power of the Crowd

Mogul offers movie fans a piece of the action on the films they support.

There are too many great films out there not getting made, due to the studios holding all of the power and making it nearly impossible for the little guys, including indie filmmakers and movie fans, to have their voices heard.  New ways of financing are igniting new trends for indie filmmaking.

Movie fans are becoming a powerful force in the decision making process. The modern movie fan is part of a collective that lets their voice be heard, both online and off. They mobilize and fight for what they are passionate about, to the point that real changes actually get made to Hollywood projects.

Bringing power back to the crowd.

Until Mogul, the mass of enthusiastic movie fans who sought greater involvement in movie production, were an under-served community. This was due to the lack of a platform that would allow the fans to be part of the process to contribute, collaborate, and vote on films and feel a sense of ownership over the content.

The greatest force in the world is compound interest.

– Albert Einstein

With Mogul, films are made through voter staking, NFT film memorabilia funding, private funding, and a Mogul film fund, the  fanbase community now has a collaborative voice and a part of the whole film making process.

Up to 50% of the film’s net proceeds can possibly be distributed back to the voting community, via a blockchain smart contract. If you don’t vote, you don’t get rewards.  By voting you are participating in the project and staking tokens. The last winning film from Mogul’s showcase, Terminal Station, had over 30,000 votes.

Terminal Station – movie
Bonded – Movie
Reboot Camp – Movie

The trend is your friend.

Digital movie merchandise will be used to promote upcoming releases.  Mogul is the platform for independent filmmakers to monetize NFTs as a means of funding their work.

Fans are also part of the process for buying the NFTs especially during the pre-production and production phases of filmmaking.  Mogul Productions has previously highlighted this market gap.   Utility based NFTs are designed to bring the fans closer to the action via different forms of experiential utility and behind-the-scenes access. A couple of examples of those could be attending red carpet premieres.  It could be getting producer credits on a film.  It could be getting access to behind-the-scenes content from the production or it could be meeting a lead actor for face time, or one-of-a-kind film posters, and invitations to exclusive events.

The power of how Mogul gets cool stories to the big screen.

This is how voting works. People will vote with their STARS utility token.  That gets kept in a smart contract.  When the fans help vote for a film, they get access to certain perks.

Sneak peek at Mogieland, Hollywood’s metaverse in its fully-fledged form.

Mogieland is being produced in partnership with the animators that brought The Simpsons series, The Simpsons Movie and VR attractions at Universal Studios Japan.  Along with Mogieland will come the first ever NFT animated series. The Mogies animated series is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Hollywood sign being erected.  Mogul Productions is bringing the fun to the 1923 milestone.

The metaverse will likely leverage Film 3 technology to support real-time CGI rendered simulations of real life on a mass scale. Just like Hollywood, Mogieland will be a shared virtual space where people from around the world will be able to gather, interact, and play, all in real time.

Mogieland is open to all. Mogieland visitors will be able to visit the walkaround environment and partake in the festivities. Hollywood is one of the most highly trafficked tourist destinations in the world.  Soon Mogieland will be too. All powered by STARS tokens.

Big reveals from Mogul Productions are coming this year. It’s going to be a fun ride.

The Story of Sonic

Sonic the hedgehog! We all wish we were half as radical as this guy!

After its release in 1991, the SEGA Genesis game quickly grew into a cultural phenomenon spanning multiple generations.  However, the last ten years have been quite rough for the makers of the game. After ‘Sonic Generations’ was released in 2007 it seemed like the Sonic team didn’t know what it wanted the series to be anymore.  Many argue that the best game to come out during this period was ‘Sonic Mania’, which wasn’t even made by the Sonic team.  SEGA enlisted the help of fans to construct it. If it weren’t so sad, that would be amusing. Fans yearned for something fresh, anything that could turn the franchise’s fortunes around.

So, what would that turn out to be? Certainly not a game made by the Sonic team of course. It was time for a movie/CGI adaptation of the legendary game!

It’s no stretch to say that this movie has one of the most fascinating production stories out there. A story of how it almost got thrown into the pile of bad Sonic 2010’s content, but more importantly, how it turned itself into one of the franchise’s biggest successes.

Sony Pictures secured the rights to make a live-action/CGI Sonic the Hedgehog feature film in 2013. Unfortunately, Sony was unable to develop the film, so in 2017, Paramount purchased the rights and things began to move forward.

The fans however were concerned about how a live-action / CGI Sonic was going to look. Sonic the Hedgehog’s first trailer was shown on April 30th, 2019. The trailer, however, caught fire online for all the wrong reasons and it was clear that fans were not happy with the questionable CGI and overall look of the character.

From the iconic white gloves to facial expressions, in an attempt to make Sonic more “real” the team forgot to make him likeable.

The design was received with a barrage of criticism from supporters. It was a complete flop, and fans vented their frustrations on social media with nasty comments and memes.

Reaction channels picked up the noise, Twitter was on fire and it was looking like the beginning of the end…

And there was a possibility that the story would stop there. The film may have been released in November 2019, however, it would have received mixed reviews because it was a good tale that was ultimately pulled down by an unattractive lead character.

Sonic fans would undoubtedly have a good time with it, but it would ultimately be a missed opportunity. With a budget of $90 million, it may have made some money at the box office, but not quite enough to be considered a thrilling success.

Certainly not enough to warrant a sequel or even a continuation of the series. It would be released, people would comment on how unattractive Sonic was, and then it would fall into obscurity.

Good thing none of that happened!

Director Jeff Fowler made an announcement on Twitter three days after the video was aired, thanking fans for their comments and promising that the team was committed to resolving it by going back to the drawing board and altering Sonic’s look based on public feedback!

The result was a completely redesigned Sonic that went on to become the highest-grossing video game adaptation movie, making a whopping USD 319 million in the US alone.

Few films have ever existed solely on their own merits in movie history. A group of fans or a community will always champion a film and argue for its place in the zeitgeist. The success of a film is as much dependent on the audience as it is on the filmmakers.

The story of the Sonic movie is a shining example of community power and voice – something that’s central to us at Mogul Productions. By incorporating blockchain and quadratic voting, we are making sure we create a platform where every fan’s voice is heard.

Learn all about our quadratic voting process here: Mogul Pioneers Blockchain Voting with Quadratic Voting for Hollywood Movies

At Mogul we fund movies from script to screen and thanks to our voting system – the community is involved every step of the way.

Mogul Productions is revolutionizing film financing through decentralized finance (DeFi), allowing a global audience of film fans to directly participate in the movies and entertainment industry.

It’s a platform for film fans, by film fans, empowering users to take an active role in the script-to-screen processes of their favourite movies.

Well… that’s all for now.

Let’s Make A Film Together!  VOTING IS BACK

The Mogul development team is assembling the newest features for Mogul’s NFT Marketplace and ecosystem. Ten major features have been or are about to be onboarded. A new feature will be reviewed each week over the course of ten weeks.

Mogul Development Update #10

For this exciting update, Jake Fraser, Head of Business Development joined us to discuss.

“The whole premise of Mogul is to enable filmmakers to get their stories turned into a cinematic release.  For filmmakers that were struggling to get financing or launch their story into the market, we see a gap here.”

One of Jake’s favorite references is the Deadpool story.  Deadpool had rested in development purgatory for years. Animated test footage for a Deadpool movie leaked online and was met with critical acclaim, resulting in 20th Century Fox finally giving the greenlight to the project.

It got made into a film because it was the power of the crowd demanding that it should be made into a movie.

“That’s the premise of Mogul. Bringing power back to the crowd”

To dive into the voting more specifically; how the process works when we had done voting in the past is we had a submission process called Showcase. With the Showcase portal on Mogul, people submitted their stories and screenplays.

Once they were submitted, our team of award winning producers in Hollywood and the entertainment industry reviewed them. Mogul would then come to a shortlist of three films based on the producer’s recommendations and expertise.

We’d present those three films to the community. Then the community votes on what film they want to see turned into a cinematic release.

Once greenlit, the production team then commences with the production or pre production process from where they are. It’s a hybrid financial model.  There are voters staking STARS, combined with NFT funding, private funding and Mogul’s Film Fund.

We have had some great success in the past, an example of this was the first film we helped fund, Bonded.

It was the first film that Mogul helped finance from the script to screen process.  It’s super exciting that the premiere was this year. And now it’s about to commence its tour on the film festival circuit.

Inspired by a true story, BONDED follows the journey of a teenager from Mexico whose dreams of becoming a soccer star are shattered when he’s smuggled across the border and sold to a sweatshop making party dresses in downtown Los Angeles.

It highlights the power of Mogul and how we can get cool stories to the big screen.

The voting community is really a collaborative way for film lovers to have a voice and be a part of the whole process.  Not only are they part of the process from a voting standpoint and get a say in what gets to be turned into a film.  But they can also be part of the process for buying the NFTs that we offer the community that are attached to the film.

Utility based NFTs are designed to bring the fans closer to the action via different forms of experiential utility and behind-the-scenes access. A couple of examples of those could be attending red carpet premieres, It could be getting producer credits on a film, It could be getting access to behind-the-scenes content from the production or It could be meeting a lead actor for face time.

This is how voting works moving forward. People will vote with their  STARS utility token.  That gets kept in a smart contract.  When the fans help vote for a film, they get access to certain perks.

Voters are able to get rewards from the film’s net proceeds.  For example, up to 50% of the film’s net proceeds can possibly be distributed back to the voting community, via a smart contract. If you don’t vote, you don’t get rewards.  By voting you are participating in the project and staking tokens. The last winning film from showcase, Terminal Station, had over 30,000 votes.

This collaborative process is always what resonates with people I talk to.

Jake speaks to a lot of external people be it partners, users, people in film. They all love the idea of crowdfunding and community empowerment in the film industry.  That’s why he feels we need to lean into this more.

“There are a million NFT marketing places, but no one else is doing this with film.”

How that fits into the overall strategy is we are trying to help creators and fans have more power in the script to screen process.

We have built a voting system called quadratic voting.  It’s a product we built that prevents double voting, fraudulent activity and people trying to game the process.

A quadratic voting system is an alternative to a plurality voting system.

A plurality voting system is one that we are all familiar with. Every voter gets one vote, all votes are equally weighted, and the candidate that ends up with the most votes wins. That’s it!

Quadratic voting uses an equation to weigh votes differently.

With this system, STARS token holders are assigned a certain number of votes per token they own. For every token that a holder has, they get fewer voting credits, so large token holders with millions of coins are unable to skew the vote.

This promotes active participation in voting from all of the STARS token holders, regardless of their size, because each holder has a voice in the process. Small holders have a proportionally large voice; which in turn allows Mogul to gauge the sentiment across our entire community, and not just a few large holders!

Why Quadratic Voting Keeps Things Fair

The number of voting credits you get at Mogul depends on how many STARS tokens you own. This is one reason for the implementation of a quadratic voting system. Mogul doesn’t have a “one person, one vote” system. STARS tokens can be earned through on-platform activities, contests, or purchased, so the number of tokens an individual person owns varies a lot!

An early adopter or large purchaser of STARS tokens has many more tokens to vote with than somebody who owns just a few tokens, but quadratic voting makes it less likely for a user with more tokens to skew the voting, because purchasing enough voting credits to do so would be VERY VERY expensive.

There is also a secondary (and equally important) benefit to the quadratic voting system. It prevents voters from buying votes or registering fake Mogul accounts to try and skew the voting of a particular showcase round to unfairly pump up the odds of certain movies going into production.

We are trying to help really good creators and fans have more power in the script to screen process for the film and entertainment industry.

We had to build a proprietary quadratic voting system.   It positions us as innovators in the crypto entertainment space.  With the technology, it prevents double voting and fraudulent activity. It prevents bad actors, pardon the pun.

It’s a hybrid financial model with voter staking, NFT film memorabilia funding, private funding and a Mogul film fund.   It’s a big push to greenlight a project and move this into the community.  Once a film is greenlit and depending on what stage the film is in, the production team will commence with the pre-production and production process.

Getting the buy-in from the people that are actually going to watch the film it sets up a better chance of succeeding, because we already have the market’s approval with what they want to watch.

We are pooling together different stakeholders to make this as successful as possible.  We are getting the fans involved, financiers involved, and an amazing production team involved.  The role Mogul plays is that it acts as the bridge between the traditional entertainment industry and the new innovative way of film financing and blockchain.  We’ve nailed that innovation and  technology on our platform and are excited to help scale this to the masses..

The Hollywood Black List Needs Blockchain

The love of film is universal. Yet behind Hollywood curtains, the movie industry is generally  exclusive to industry insiders. The movie selection process itself is ultimately being managed by a small group of experts at the major studios. This leads to promising scripts being overlooked. That gap in greenlighting overlooked projects was identified by Hollywood insiders themselves.  It was a driver behind the creation of the Black List, an annual crowd-sourced list ranking unproduced screenplays that non-studio industry experts felt had been overlooked.

Today, Black List films have become some of Hollywood’s most successful movies.  As of 2019, 4 of the last 10 Academy Awards for Best Picture went to scripts featured on previous Black Lists, as well as 12 of the last 20 screenwriting Oscars (Original and Adapted Screenplays). Since its inception, more than 400 Black List scripts have been produced, grossing over $26 billion in box office worldwide. Black List movies have won 53 Academy Awards from 262 nominations. Most recent successful Black List films include: The Wolf of Wall Street, The Social Network, Bird Box, American Hustle, Argo, and The Imitation Game.

With lack of transparency, clunky processes, misaligned incentives, and the success of Black List movies, the entertainment industry is primed for disruption, especially for the independent model.

Bringing power back to the crowd.  That’s the premise of Mogul.

The DeFi and NFT boom has led to a sizable shift in the creator economy.  Mogul unlocks opportunities for screenwriters, producers, directors and performers to reach out to audiences and get their projects funded.

“The whole premise of Mogul is to enable filmmakers to get their stories turned into a cinematic release.  For filmmakers that were struggling to get financing or launch their story into the market, we see a gap here.”

–  Jake Fraser, Head of Business Development

The voting community is really a collaborative way for film lovers to have a voice and be a part of the whole production process.  Not only are they part of the process from a voting standpoint and get a say in what projects will be turned into films, but they can also be part of the process for buying the NFTs on Mogul’s marketplace which are attached to the film.

Utility based NFTs are designed to bring the fans closer to the action via different forms of experiential utility and behind-the-scenes access. A couple of examples could be attending red carpet premieres, getting producer credits on a film, getting access to behind-the-scenes content from the production or it could be meeting a lead actor for face time.

People vote with their STARS utility tokens which have a currency value.  When fans help vote for a film, they get access to certain perks.  Voters are able to receive rewards from the film’s net proceeds.  For example, up to 50% of the film’s net proceeds can possibly be distributed back to the voting community, via a smart contract. Investors will  be able to participate in a diverse, growing slate of movies with Mogul. We are committed to transparent budgeting and aligning all stakeholder incentives to bottom-line profitability. Mogul also allows investors, as well as creatives, to get better deals working on Mogul films compared to competitors. Investors receive a direct stake in the success of Mogul films, and the chance to earn experiential perks. Our model gives investors better terms and all parties involved are on the same recoupment plan.

Furthermore it loosens the barriers to getting outside financing.  Producers can show outside financiers that they already have their own fan base and financial support to make the project a success. This generates loyalty, a sense of ownership, and incentive alignment with the success of Mogul films.

Mogul is a community of communities focused on revolutionizing and advancing the movie industry. We are committed to engaging the global community to achieve our mission. Together, we are Mogul.

How Are Movie Projects Selected?

Films that typically receive financing are those with good packaging and have all the different elements required to create a desirable and commercial.  This includes a script that tantalizes in the first ten pages and delivers right through to the final page, and attracts a successful director and star talent that is “bankable”.

This package plays a large part in increasing investor and buyer confidence but is now just one part of a larger matrix of packaging elements that sum to a film’s marketability.

The Black List as well as movies like Deadpool and Veronica Mars have harnessed the power of the crowd within a data-driven platform.   Access to timely, evolving insights to inform decisions will mitigate risk for investors in the film financing stage.   Up-to-date data on audience preferences guides movie production decisions on the path to profitability.

Let’s make a film together!

Fun Trivia: The term Hollywood blacklist was the colloquial term for an entertainment industry blacklist put in effect in the mid-20th century during the Cold War. The blacklist involved the practice of denying employment to entertainment industry professionals believed to be communist sympathizers. Actors, screenwriters, directors, musicians, and other American entertainment professionals were barred from work by the studios on the basis of their alleged membership in, or sympathy with the Communist Party USA, or on the basis of their refusal to assist Congressional investigations into the party’s activities. It quickly and directly damaged or ended the careers and income of scores of individuals working in the film industry.

Movies like Trumbo showcased Hollywood’s history like Dalton Trumbo, who In 1947 was Hollywood’s top screenwriter, until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs.

Mogul is where movies meet blockchain. Mogul partners with some of the biggest names in entertainment, helping artists of all sorts connect with their most loyal fans on different levels, while giving them innovative ways to engage with their favorite performers.

How Films Connect with Audiences – What We Can Learn From This, How it Shapes the Way We Operate

While the medium of publicity in the early era of the film industry transitioned quickly – from street hawkers soliciting passersby to attend moving picture shows, to print ads, to brochures, to radio ads, to the modern movie preview as we know it – there has not been much innovation in the way that films have connected with audiences.

In other words, the film fan has largely been left out of the film-making process through the movie industry’s 130-year history. However, a growing movement that Mogul is pioneering, known as Film3, is about to transform the film industry, making films more community-driven.

History of Film Advertising and Publicity

In the early days of the movie industry, there were street hawkers on corners and traveling showmen offering a program of “moving pictures.” These people would attract an audience and crowd, spreading the invention of the movie through word of mouth. They would travel from one place to the next, film-in-hand, getting people to try the new invention.

Soon thereafter, movies were advertised through text-heavy slides in the pre-cinema era.

Pictures or actual film footage was hardly used in this early era. Some of the first films that used an actual scene or picture from the film in the advertisement were films from notable backgrounds, usually with biblical or literary notoriety. The pictures featured in these early films denoted the noteworthiness of the subject matter. Picture or not, these early films were featured in trade publications circa 1910, or they were passed around on quarter sheets outside of vaudeville houses, nickelodeons, or theaters.

Early movie theater posters began rolling out at the start of the 20th century. However, these posters showed moviegoers going to the movie. Meanwhile, the movie itself wasn’t prominently featured. Eventually, movie posters went on to include information about the film. Over time the film’s stars were centered on the posters during the days of Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Rudolf Valentino, and Lillian Gish. A-list films also rolled out merchandise such as a fake hotel key with a tag promoting Chaplin’s film Hotel Imperial.

At this point, the film fan hardly knew what the movie was about, unless of course it dealt with a notable subject matter.

From Movie Posters to Previews

Early movie studios were mostly content with what is described as “narrow publicity.” There were newsletters and sheets such as Edison Kinetogram, the Kalem Kalendar, and the Lubin Bulletin (New York Times). These sheets would compile a few upcoming releases with a still from the movie, a title, and a plot summary. Distributors sent business letters and catalogs to theaters in advance of film releases. One letter offered a bonus to the Adele Theater in Eamon, Georgia… “the right to screen four films a week for $25 and an additional weekly newsreel for free (Economist).”

The modern preview (movie trailer) as we know it came into existence in 1913 because of Nils Granlund, the publicist and marketing director for the founder of MGM and Loews Theaters. Granlund, a Swedish-born former automobile race car driver, caught the attention of MGM and Loews Theater Founder Marcus Loew soon after Granlund pivoted his career into working for a local theater. Soon after Granlund began working for Loew, Granlund produced a promotional film for the movie The Pleasure Seekers.  A reporter from the Nebraska Daily Star was at the first preview and described it as “an entirely new stunt.”

This event started a nationwide trend that still exists in some form today. Although it may have been some time since you’ve seen a movie in a theater, rest-assured that there are trailers playing before the film that advertise other movies you may be interested in.

Scant on Detail

Many early movie previews up through the 1940s remained scant on the plot details, focusing more on the stars and special effects, “(giving away) as little as possible.” Early previews would give small windows into the movie but never give complete narratives away.

Over time, we’ve seen films divulge more and more of their plots to connect with audiences beforehand. While earlier films in the first days of cinema sold the attendees on the concept of going to the movie more than the movie itself, later stages of the industry divulged more and more of the plot.

The National Screen Service (NSS) started a half-century monopoly to promote films, and hence film trailers were monopolized. It signed exclusive contracts with all of the major movie production houses to hand out the posters and produce the posters as well. This kept film marketing the same through the 1980s. As the format of theaters transformed from individual screens to multi-screen, the available room for advertising shrunk. Resultantly, movie posters also decreased in size.

Although the mediums have changed, from radio and newspaper pre-film trailers and social media advertisements, the format of previews has largely stayed the same. Of course, there is more behind-the-scenes footage that we get from actors who post content on their Instagram or TikTok. There is also more of a focus for individual actors to connect with their communities to boost a film, drawing the audience in through related content, then having a link to their latest film in their bio (social media profile).

The Film Industry’s Impenetrable Gate

Previews of films have been historically limited. The production houses and creators tell us what to watch, and over time, more and more details about these films have come about. Yet, we are still only the end receivers. Film fans should be able to choose what they want to see from the ground up. However, generally speaking, films have largely been inaccessible to film fans before they have been created. Red carpet premieres and the glam of award shows add this larger-than-life element to Hollywood.

Besides a trip to Universal Studios or Disney World where you can ride on the attractions of some of your favorite films, there are very few opportunities to participate in the world of film for the average person. How more likely would you be to talk about a film if you’ve been involved in the process of making it, or if you were in the film yourself? Examples of some movies like Deadpool have compounded on this idea to create a community-led international phenomenon. Crypto is making community-led film initiatives even more possible.

Now, Film3 is getting people closer to the action. It gives the fans the ability to vote for what they want to see. In the earliest days of film, people would show up at the cinema and get whatever they were given. Marketing techniques merely dictated to people what they would watch. However, now marketing for films is about to totally change.

How NFTs can impact the Way Films Connect with Audiences

Crypto communities are transforming the world of film in three major ways:

  1. Community Centered: Films will become more community-centered, both from a production standpoint and an investor standpoint. The tokenization of the film will result in a community-governed format that has worked across other industries. People-led initiatives will increase the draw to films.
  2. Choosing-your-own-Adventure: The community-governed approach to filmmaking that is currently sweeping the industry will create a culture of choice. The community-bound investors can have a say over different production elements, even going as far as choosing the ending, actors, and crew. Film3 gets people closer to the action.
  3. Creating the Plot: Crypto communities serve as a natural evolution in the trajectory of divulging the plot to the audience before a film is created. While earlier movies did not reveal much in the way of the plot, and merely dictated to people what they had to watch, movies nowadays have behind-the-scenes footage on actors’ Instagrams. Crypto takes this concept of behind-the-scenes beforehand one step further. The technology allows for communities to co-create the films alongside production teams — this is similar to what we see in the video game industry where AAA quality games are being created with game developers, players, and investors sitting side-by-side next to the drawing board – from funding, to narrative, to the marketing plan, to the execution.

While there are many other ways that blockchain technology and crypto communities can enhance film, these are just a few that Mogul will specifically take on.

How Mogul is Leading the Charge with Film3

Mogul STARS Access Pass has different tiers that get you more and more access behind the scenes of our platform. Through our platform, members can submit movie ideas to producers, directors, and financial stakeholders in the industry for their consideration. Members of Mogul’s community can view the film poster, trailer, budget proposal, and financial projections. With this data transparently viewable on the blockchain, film fans can make an educated vote on production decisions. Through this community-centered process, film fans become part of the action. Crypto will make the once-elusive red carpet become accessible to anyone that wants to be on it.

From plot to premiere, Mogul Productions is bringing film fans behind the screen. ‍

Bridging Physical to Virtual With New Products and Experiences

The world is becoming more and more virtual. There is an increasingly blurred line every day between what the metaverse is and what is real. As time goes on, people are becoming more inclined by both their own choice and circumstance to virtually experience what was once physical. Through the rise of VR headsets, virtual experiences such as visiting another part of the world instantly is now possible. Over the last decade, virtual socialization has come to life – whether it is live streaming, metaverse fashion shows, or even the accessorization of digital avatars.

NFTs are part of the charge leading this transformation from physical to virtual with products and experiences. Beyond JPEGs and NBA highlight-reel moments, NFTs are being used to turn all types of once-physical experiences into digital experiences. Online communities such as The Sandbox and Decentraland are home to many token-gated social gatherings where members of NFT communities unite to do things that would not have been done virtually as little as 5 or 10 years ago. A digital “second life” is becoming more and more ubiquitous, and that digital second life is generally taking on a larger percentage of our “real life.”

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin even goes as far as to say that our soul can be digitalized and put on the blockchain through Soulbound Tokens (SBTs). Buterin’s idea for the NFT token is that it would be non-transferable, so you can’t sell or buy them. Rather, SBTs would be credential or membership linked for items permanently attached to your identity that cannot be taken away.

Blurring the Line Between Virtual and Physical

World-famous brands such as Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Molson Coors, JPMorgan, and others have begun virtually planting themselves in the metaverse by simulating what was once only done in our physical life. Several examples of virtual communities and events even blur the line between virtual and physical.

The beer company Miller Lite created a metaverse bar inside of Decentraland where people 21-years-and-older enjoyed virtual beers and were given a chance to win beer for a party paid for by Miller Lite. The bar had a bouncer, a bartender, and a fridge where you could get your avatar a free beer. Attendees of the virtual bar in Decentraland were also able to collect a POAP as proof of their attendance.

Meanwhile, in China, the NFT collection Adidas Originals teamed up with Tencent Music for the TMELAND festival featuring Jay Park and MC Jin performances. The 1.3M virtual attendees could walk the catwalk, redeem sneakers, and interact with others while dressed in Adidas’ Ozworld clothing line.

Virtual items have also become physical. One example is when some of the lucky token holders of one of RTFK’s collections had a chance to grab a virtual sneaker NFT that unlocked a pair of physical sneakers created in collaboration with the world-renowned artist Fewocious. In just 7 minutes, the collection generated $3.1M.
Although there weren’t NFTs produced in this metaverse concert, one of the world’s most popular video games, Fortnite, had a series of successful concerts. Performing artists included Marshmello and Travis Scott – the latter netting a $20M collaboration which included Fortnite skins and other in-game accessories.

It is such a powerful and important time for brands to start blending their virtual and physical experiences. People want a place to turn where they can socialize while they are in their own homes.

Mogieland: Design, Perks, Utility

Mogieland, is the digital land where the Mogies NFT characters live. Mogies are created by the animators that brought The Simpsons series, The Simpsons Movie and VR attractions at Universal Studios Japan. Their unique process starts with the team digitally sculpting each Mogie. It begins with a 2D design and is then enhanced through computer graphics (CG), all part of an 8-step process before it becomes NFT ready for the multifaceted metaverse.  Erick Tran and his award-winning, transmedia production team at CHAVVO Studios have worked with major Hollywood studios including Disney, Universal, Marvel Entertainment, Sony Animation, Cartoon Network, Fox, Dreamworks, Nickelodeon, and EA.

Not only do the Mogie’s design reflect a very intrinsic, intensive artistic process, but Mogie’s utility has several unique benefits. Mogie owners gain access to perks, which include chances to be featured in an animated series, attend film premieres and concerts, and buying fashion for both your Mogie and yourself.

Mogieland’s roadmap between now and mid-2023 includes a P2E game, a land sale, figurines, and an animated series. See the entire roadmap on this post

Mogies present the opportunity to join an exclusive community of people who enjoy film, concerts, fashion and art. Each NFT is a key that unlocks access to the Mogul universe, with perks that are both real and in the metaverse.
